23rd Annual Dinner
Bookings are no longer being taken for the Annual Dinner. We have 120 people coming which should make it a great night. Between 10am and 2pm, we are having a small exhibition of costumes and our archive. Come along to have a chin wag over a cup of tea or a pint of Harveys and watch the first viewing of our 2009 DVD. Our pioneer 8, who were winners of the 2009 Pioneer Cup at the Bonco competitions, will be on display in all their finery.
CSBS won the Pioneer Cup at the annual Bonco competitions with a fantastic display of our North American Indians. What a fitting way to begin celebrating the 100th anniversary of having Indians as our First Pioneer. No other society in Lewes come anywhere near to being able to compete with this fantastic achievement.
Many thanks to all those who took the time and effort to organise our entrants and participate on the night, especially the children. We were in the lead up until we won the Pioneer cup but unfortunately the complete lack of 2nd Pioneers and other costumes meant that our points remained the same for the rest of the night!
Maybe next year we can show a bit more effort as a society and clean up!
CSBS run a professional bar service that can cater for small to large events. If you are able to help run this or any other bar, or would like us to run a bar for you, please contact Paul Wilkinson at commercialbars@yahoo.co.uk
From a membership level, CSBS could be classed as a very successful society. With over 1000 members we are the largest society in the town
which is reflected in our incredible display on the Fifth.
It is unfortunate however that throughout the year we see so little of the majority of
these members. A small number of dedicated people work so hard from Nov 6th one year to the Fifth the following year to make sure we raise enough funds to
put on that display and have enough torches, banners, badges, fireworks, barrels, firewood, fencing, lighting, transport, storage etc etc etc, to make
it work.
Each and every member should ask themselves - 'What can I do for MY society'. Here are a few ideas:
If we don't raise enough money throughout the year then we have little option but to either increase membership fees (which we have already done once) or decrease the size of the society by freezing the membership (which we are doing this year for the first time)
Ideas are more than welcome on our Forum
